This is Part 2 of the Harbour Freight Utility Trailer assembly.
After assembling the trailer with nuts and bolts I welded 90 % of the bolted channels including the hitch assembly. It was a 4×8 feet folding and tilt Utility Trailer.
1195 lbs cap.
It has been modified to carry a Golf Cart or ATV and still be used as a Utility trailer.
It was a lot of welding but its reinforced especially the side rails made it even more sturdy. i would reccomend it to anyone who buys one of these, its pretty flimsy with just the bolts.
I used 2″ angle line to add some more cross beams and two front to back as well as for side rails and extended the back of the trailer 5″ with them. The front has the rail tilted forward so that I gained another 5″. The side Rails were also slanted toward the sides so that the Wheels of a golf cart oe ATV will not get damaged if they happen to rub against them.
The trailer bed now measures 8 feet and 10 Inches long and 4 feet and 4 inches wide from the top of the side rails.
The expanded metal I used for the floor was a good idea, the wheel traction was very good while driving up the expanded metal floor. I’m glad I dint use plywood it would have been very slippery when wet. I test drove it with my H3 Hummer and it was smooth riding, after going around the neighbohood a few times and took it on the State Road to get some speed I dint even feel it anymore.
The only thing left is to find a spot to mount the spare tire and stick some reflector tape to the back. I will probably add more to it but I waisted enough time on it for now.
Next test will be to hook it in back of the Motorhome and see what kind of ride that will give me.
I will be filming it when it happens….
Finished strapping all the wires after coating it with shrink tubing and wire insulator.
